Book Review: When Disconnected
A collection of short stories that explore feelings in a fresh, deep, rich way.
Each story has its own voice and spins its own yarn. Each story is well written and imaginative. Somehow each story felt connected to the next, which is odd taking the book’s title into consideration.
At the same time, all these short stories stand on their own and offer lots of food for thought. Some tales will make you feel alone, others will make you feel afraid, and yet some others will prompt you to stop and read them again so that the message in the story really sinks in.
Author Christine Vann does a wonderful job to illustrate reality using fantasy and fiction as metaphors…or at least this is how her anthology felt to me.
What I liked about this book…
The best thing about When Disconnected, in my humble opinion, is that its vast, rich and wide array of stories, situations and characters are left open to the reader’s imagination and interpretation. That’s no easy feat for a writer, any which way one wishes to look at it.
When Disconnected is a wonderful collection of short stories, one that does a great job delving deep into the human psyche, no doubt.
What I didn’t like about this book…
My biggest complain about When Disconnected is that it was a little too short for my taste. But it’s definitely a great read for a rainy afternoon, to go with a warm cup of coffee or tea.
